Our home
in Goroka

We’ve broken up with Sydney and are now in the process of “un-coupling” from it. Whilst doing that we have been building a new life in the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea;

A plot of land, a home, a steady water and electricity supply, a school enrolment and of coarse visa’s are all key parts of starting life somewhere new. It’s very exciting!

We began the process of building our house last September. Had Dan not contracted a major bout of cellulitis in his hand - limiting his design work (and income) we may well already have completed it. For now though, it has 4 walls, a roof, doors and some flooring installed.

The homes foundations are made with locally sourced and milled timber, the roof is aluminium and it’s walls are made of locally woven dry grass. Due to the heavy rain-fall in the region, we’ve had to pay special attention to waterproofing and limiting mould growth.
